All About Exotic Sports Cars

sport carFor many owning a sports car is a lifelong goal they aspire to. Even as children we are almost programmed to turn and look at the beautiful sleek sports car as it cruises through the town. Sports cars are the zenith of motoring and something which people dedicate their lives to. Benetton shops were created purely to fund one man’s love for racing and that is just one well known example.

Everyone can name at least one sports car, Ferrari’s, Porsches, Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus and Lamborghini to name just a few. So what is the appeal of such unobtainable cars? Sports cars aren’t for convenience or practicalities; they are purely made to be beautiful and luxurious. Why is it that so many of our own screen hero’s don’t drive practical 4×4′s or be economically friendly and cycle? Can we really picture James Bond turning up to save the world in a 5 door hatchback? No. Sports cars do exactly what they say on the tin. They are fast; they only hold 2 people and don’t worry about space for things like groceries.

Sports cars were initially manufactured for the affluent classes as the “ordinary” cars of the day were dull and boring and practical. Sports cars provided the luxury of speed, safety and comfort. With ordinary cars becoming better looking, more comfortable and safer and the sports cars becoming economically unsound the market is dropping. People are driving now not for pleasure but because they have to. Public transport is becoming more expensive and with town and cities spreading ever wider and wider the need to drive is becoming more prevalent. For those who buying a car is not a necessity but a pleasure, you can complete your man about town image by buying the latest fashion and accessories from Armani, Brioni (Suit maker for James Bond), BOSS, Kiton and Ralph Lauren or expensive cigars and watches like Cartier and Breitling from some of web sites that offer these products at more reasonable prices. The World’s Fastest Sports Car

sport carMany things go into making a car a sports car, but chief among the factors that separate standard autos from sports cars is speed. Speed is not the sole measurement by which a sports car can or should be judged, but great acceleration and top end speed are factors that are always considered by sports car enthusiasts. While there are cars that can reach 60 mph quicker, the overall fastest production sports car in the world is the McLaren F1.

The McLaren holds all known records for speed among publicly available, street legal sports cars. Its 6.1liter V12 engine (which was designed by BMW) provides an awesome 627 bhp. To put that number in perspective, 627 bhp is more than double the power output of the engine found in one of the world’s most famous sports cars, the Astin Martin DB5.

Various sources have tested the McLaren F1. All have been able to push the vehicle to speeds in excess of 230 miles per hour. Some have reached speeds over 240 miles per hour in the F1.

The world’s fastest sports car is quick off the line, too. It can go from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in only 3.1 seconds, an amazing clip. It took only slightly more than 6 seconds for the car to achieve 100 mile per hour rates from a dead stop. The McLaren F1′s body was constructed from carbon fibers; an automotive innovation and it boasted gull-wings similar to the Lamborghini Countach and Delorean DMC12. Read the rest of this entry »
